I didn't think that writing on here every now and then would be so difficult!

So tonight I am officially starting to teach night school again and I have to say, ew! But money is always helpful in staying alive. I teach at an alternative high school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to students who are trying to catch up and graduate on time. I am here from 5:00 to 8:30 PM, so it makes for a really long day. The hardest thing about it is being away from my family for so long.

The next bit of news requires some background information. Last March I went the an ENT to see if we could do a sleep study to see if I have sleep apnea. The doctor said that I definitely had a deviated septum. The wall of my nose was so bent out of shape that 80% of my right nostril was blocked. So he decided that we should have that surgically fixed before we do a sleep study. Well, when I was coming out of anesthesia after the surgery the heart monitor was showing some strange rhythms. It ended up being atrial fibrillation, which means that the top chambers of my heart were beating out of rhythm and could possibly lead to a blood clot and stroke. I was in the hospital for that for a few days where they put me on blood thinners and other medications. They then tried to shock (yes shock) my heart back into rhythm. That didn't work. I left the hospital and saw the cardiologist a few days later. He put me on a different medication and said we were going to try for the shocking procedure again in a week.

The day I was to have the second procedure they had to stick a tube down my throat to look at my heart and make sure there was no blood clot before they shocked me again. I was under heavy sedation, but I could still kind of tell what was going on. I even answered some of the technical anatomical questions the cardiologist was asking the medical students! It pays to teach biology! They shocked me four more times, two of which I remember. In case you wanted to know, it felt like someone hit me with a super-heated glove right in the chest. My heart went back in rhythm. To make the rest of the story shorter, I have been visiting the cardiologist since then and have had regular checkups, all the while being on 6 different medications (one of which thins my blood and another which can cause toxicity). Yesterday we talked to the doctor and, since all has been going very well, he took me off the toxic medication and I should be off the blood thinners in a couple of weeks! I am very excited!

Anyway, that is what has been happening to me. Our family has been doing very well. Alyssa, who is 6, is in first grade, and is loving it! Kaylie, who is five, can't wait to be in school and has been a great help to Shannon at home. Sam, who is three, is as much a boy as he can be (even though sometimes his sisters dress him up as a princess). Jaymie, just turned one, is very full of life and interested in everything. She has been a unique baby for us since she was born a month early. She has remained in less than the 10th percentile for height and weight since she was born. She is a very tiny kid by our standards, and to see her walk around is both comical and cute.

Thanks for visiting the page! I am planning on setting aside one day a week to post the week's events.

As for the promotion news, I know it may seem a bit strange that a teacher would be 'promoted'. However, in New Mexico there are 3 teirs of teachers, each of which has a specific minimum pay. In order to get to level 2 I had to make this huge portfolio which mostly consisted of my 'BS-ing' a whole bunch of educational jargon. The document ended up being about 80 pages long. I would post it on here, but I kind of want people to come back every now and then =)

Anyway, that is the biggest news for now, other than the fact that we actually start school this week.

Buying a House

So we are buying a house. It is a very weird and scary experience. We have been working on closing for a little over a month and I honestly think that is the worst part. Sitting around and waiting for all of these things to be done is kind of nerve-wracking. We did our final walk through today and will be closing tomorrow. We are moving in tomorrow as well. I will try posting pictures later.

First Time As a Blogger!

Well, this is my first attempt at blogging. I started up a blog for our family because I was trying to find some information on the class of '99 MHS reunion. I found the blog site for the reunion at http://madisonclassof1999.blogspot.com/ and I saw that there were many others who had started up a blog. It was exciting to see people and what they have been doing for the last 10 years. Since we have not kept in contact with almost anyone I decided that we needed to start a blog so that we could at least catch everyone up on what we have been doing. It will take me a little while before this is all set up and up to date, so please be patient as I am very busy with life stuff at the same time. Hope you come back to visit! Oh, and if you are a 1999 MHS graduate and have a blog, send me a link to it!

Ehren
